General Maintenance Mechanic (Auto and All Shops)

Position Summary:
Monmouth University is seeking applicants for a General Maintenance Mechanic (Auto and All Shops) in the Facilities Management department.
The candidate would be expected to: conduct bi-weekly inspections of generators; work from shop manuals, blueprints, diagrams and sketches regularly; locates and contacts appropriate vendors as necessary; recommends materials; prepares required material lists for projects and daily maintenance; regularly checks and reports safety problems, and take corrective action whenever appropriate; maintain work hour and material expenditures records for various projects; keep Supervisor and Executive Director for Campus Planning and Facilities Management informed about progress and problems on a daily basis as needed;
Prepares and submits reports to Supervisor and Executive Director as required; respond to unscheduled and emergency service requests; interacts with students, parents and other members of the University community in a positive, customer service oriented style; assist Auto, Carpentry, Custodial, Electrical, Grounds, Locksmith, HVAC, and Plumbing staffs with various projects using ladders, torches, measuring devices, power and hand tools.

Other Requirements:
- A valid driver's license in your state of residence and have had no serious violations (Type A) within the past five (5) years and no more than three (3) moving violations (Type B) in the past three (3) years. University Policy found here:Monmouth University Vehicle Use Policy.
- Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Must have a high degree of attention for detail and care to prevent injury to self and others and to ensure that all work is constantly providing an appropriate level of service to, and meeting the needs of the University community.
- Must be able to read and write in English and understand oral and written instructions, including MSDS directions, chemical product labels, equipment manuals, and complete work orders. Must be able to utilize computers to access email, complete on-line ordering, and maintain necessary record keeping.
- Must be able to calculate mathematically. Must be able to lift and move heavy objects regularly. Must use all required safety and personal protective equipment (including respiratory protection).
- Must be able to work in multi-story buildings without elevators. Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights and in confined spaces regularly. Must be able to drive vehicles equipped with standard transmissions.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime as required. Must be willing and able to respond to emergency calls after working hours. Must have excellent attendance and work record and perform all work in strict accordance with accepted trade practices, code requirements and all safety and good housekeeping requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A high school graduate (or equivalent). Trade or technical school graduate.
