About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

Oversees and maintains the University's fleet maintenance program which includes vehicles, carts and other motorized equipment. Responsible for ensuring safe operation of all vehicles and equipment; completing routine and non-routine repairs in a timely manner; implement programs/schedules for maintenance to maximize the efficient use of fleet & University resources; monitors inventory and usage; supervise work done by on fleet by mechanics or other technical specialist if needed.

Work is performed at a professional level in the field of automotive, diesel and small equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment. Checks all repair work performed including physical inspections and road tests before vehicle is returned to service.
  • Implements and monitors a preventative maintenance program to assure cost effective maintenance and a scheduled maintenance program to provide maintenance by manufacturers specifications. Keeps maintenance and repair records for fleet.

  • Maintains a complete inventory system through recording of all expenditures of each vehicle, maintenance equipment, repair parts, supplies, etc. Structural maintenance and troubleshooting of TMA computer system. Emergency generator record keeping.
  • Monitors usage of fleet for reporting, compliance, industry recalls, and for future forecasting. Develops a budget to support fleet and fleet maintenance. Researches and makes recommendations on future fleet and equipment purchases. Purchase repair parts and supplies. Negotiates on behalf of University with contractors and mechanics for cost of repairs performed elsewhere.
  • Emergency generator record keeping and deployment for event requests generators both in house or through one of our vendors.
  • Assisting with minor welding repairs and metal work fabrication where needed.
  • All other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or completion of vocational/trade program in automotive mechanics is required.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience is required.

Candidate must possess a TX driver's license and clear MVR. Candidate with ASE Automotive Technician and OPX operations & Maintenance certifications is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment with accuracy and speed. Candidate must possess knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement. The candidate must also possess considerable knowledge of safety practices and techniques in mechanics. knowledge of diesel and gas engine mechanics and parts and supplies is required. Candidate with knowledge of WMS/CMMS (computerized maintenance management software) and/or electronic diagnostic equipment is desired.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Schedule:

Shift flex is required for evenings and weekends. Schedules may be adjusted to accommodate coverage for 1st & 2nd shifts during weekdays and/or weekends for temporary or permanent shift changes. Required to respond to emergency calls. Considered essential personal
